The tablet takes up the iconography of the famous mystical Marriage by Correggio, now preserved in the Capodimonte Museum. The work, also painted on a small panel, was requested at the end of the 16th century by Odoardo farnese for his Roman collection and we know that already in the middle of the 17th century several copies were circulating.
The pictorial surface shows different color losses.
