The author of the offered canvas, who inscribes and dates the rock the flock is situated on (Fanoni - not decipherable; 169 ...), is affected not only by the influence of the German painter Philipp Peter Ross (Rosa da Tivoli) but also by the teachings of Giacinto Brandi, of whom he could be a pupil and to whom he refers the Arcadian shepherd on the left of the painting. In fact, we know that Philipp Ross was active in Brandi's workshop from 1677 and it is not difficult to imagine how our author was heavily influenced by both Masters.
The pictorial surface is in more than good condition. Upon analysis with Wood's lamp it appears repainted in small scattered portions
