Carved, gilded and cream-colored lacquered wood, X-shaped. Uprights in the shape of swans with outstretched wings, which support garlands of ribboned laurel leaves in their beaks; slightly arched laurel-leaf feet. Seat upholstery in dark green silk and gold weave. Stamped with P. Marcion. Light restorations.
Pierre-Benoit Marcion was among the main cabinetmakers of Napoleon I, creating some of the furnishings of the Imperial Palace, including the left part and the gallery of the Grand Trianon, the entire furniture of the Petit Trianon, the Mail Pavilion, Bagatelle and Monceaux, thus influencing the cabinetmaking production of the period.
The swan-shaped decoration is very widespread in Marcion's works, for example the bergères and armchairs by the same cabinetmaker preserved at the Château de
Fontainebleau or the production for the
Palais de Saint-Cloud .
