In rosewood, amaranth and various fruit woods. Double drawer without crosspiece and three upper half drawers under the top. The two drawers are treated as a single decorative unit with the allegory of music and medallions with amphorae, on the sides geometric "labyrinth" designs with vegetal scrolls above. Upper band with three small drawers decorated with geometric motif inlays. Handles and escutcheons in finely chiseled gilded bronze with vegetal festoons and band in chiseled gilded bronze with laurel leaf motif. Resting on arched feet with finely chiseled gilded bronze finishes. Upper top in Aleppo Breccia. Stamped "RVLC" on the right rear upright.
Roger Vandercruse Lacroix, of Flemish origin, Maître in 1755, is among the most renowned cabinetmakers of the time, influencing and contributing to the evolution of furniture towards neoclassicism. Among his clients were Madame du Barry, Victoria of Bourbon-France (Madame Victoire), Queen Marie Antoinette of Habsburg-Lorraine and Louis XVI of France. Furniture of his creation is preserved at the Château de Versailles.
